The Welsh Government has recently proposed a dreadful idea to close junction 25, 26, and 27 of the M4. That's 3 of the 5 major Newport M4 junctions - that's 60%. This has been proposed with people commuting through Newport in mind, NOT the actual residents of Newport. We as a community reject this idea, as it will only increase our daily commutes and further pollute local Newport roads.
More details
Closing these junctions will have little to no affect on the M4 traffic itself - the junctions aren't the cause of traffic, if anything, they are the lanes that flow most freely! The issue causing the traffic is the bottleneck at the Brynglas tunnels, and the bottleneck for the flyover at Celtic Manor - NEITHER of which will be fixed by closing any amount of junctions. This combined with a pointless 50mph average speed limit throughout all of Newport's M4 section is what causes traffic. All closing these junctions will do is drive more business away from Newport and further damage the local economy.
