Question
How is the Welsh Government working to address the shortage of applicants for Welsh-medium primary school teaching positions, as has been highlighted in research by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Education and the Welsh Language
The National Institute of Economic and Social Research report highlighted that Welsh-medium senior leadership posts are harder to fill, particularly in Welsh-medium primary schools.
Headteacher succession planning is a matter for local authorities and governing bodies. The Welsh Government funds the National Professional Headship Qualification (NPQH) and requires local authorities to ensure that individuals are being encouraged to complete the qualification in readiness for headship.
