Question
Will the Minister confirm whether Brexit was a contributing factor to the inclusion of strict environmental targets for farmers in the Welsh Government's plans for the sustainable farming scheme?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd
The need for a system of subsidy for farmers is a direct result of Brexit.
The urgency of the climate and nature emergency cannot be overstated. Its effects are impacting on our ecosystems and pose significant threats to our agricultural and food systems. Recognising this, our focus on sustainable policies, innovative strategies, and collaborative efforts is paramount in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change while ensuring a resilient future for farmers and the people of Wales.
