Question
What is the Welsh Government doing to recruit and retain teachers in Pembrokeshire?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Education
Our support for the teaching workforce and recruitment initiatives apply pan-Wales, including but not exclusive to the; ITE Incentives, Salaried PGCE, Teaching Wales marketing campaign, a funded mentor and professional learning programme for teachers undertaking induction, National Professional Learning Entitlement, and funding for ‘Education Support’, providing free advice and support for schools.
The responsibility for the employment of teachers in schools in Pembrokeshire lies with the local authority and governing bodies as the employing bodies. We continue to hold regular meetings with Local Authorities and other stakeholders to ensure that sufficient, suitable staff are employed or engaged to work in schools, to provide education appropriate for the ages, aptitudes, abilities and needs of the pupils.
