Question
Has the Welsh Government paid any funds to any individuals resident outside of the UK as part of the basic income pilot or any other scheme, detailing the scheme in that instance?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Trefnydd and Chief Whip
The Welsh Government’s Basic Income Pilot makes payments exclusively to UK bank accounts. The eligible recipients, care leavers, were either residents of Wales at the time of enrolment or looked after by Welsh local authorities and placed elsewhere in the UK. We recognise the unique challenges faced by care leavers, and our Basic Income Pilot offers them greater flexibility to pursue opportunities, including studying abroad or joining the military.
In regards to other schemes that provide funds to individuals resident outside of the UK, we cannot provide that information due to the disproportionate costs associated with responding to the question.
