Question
What financial incentives is the Welsh Government providing to encourage businesses and homeowners to install rooftop solar panels?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning
Businesses can apply to the Development Bank of Wales for a green business loan to support their decarbonisation proposals. The Business Wales website has a business finance zone offering specialised guidance and information to help people identify appropriate finance as well as a finance locator.
The Green Homes Wales scheme, operated by the Development Bank of Wales, supports owner occupiers on their decarbonisation journey with access to zero-interest finance alongside retrofit assessments to help understand the works required for their home. This is a key step in enabling homeowners to make green choices for their homes. There has been a very high level of interest in the scheme, and I am delighted to have allocated £3 million to extend this pilot in 2025-26.
We encourage households in Wales to contact Nest to get free advice on energy efficiency measures, information on sources of support, and to check if they are eligible for our Warms Homes Nest scheme. Nest has a budget of £35million for 2025-2026 to support low-income households with a bespoke package of energy efficiency measures, which may include solar PV if appropriate.
