Question
What steps is the Welsh Government taking to ensure that rural businesses and farms can maximise the benefits from renewable energy opportunities?
Answer
Answered by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
We welcome rural businesses and farmers across Wales looking to install renewable energy technologies. Businesses can apply to the Development Bank of Wales for a green business loan to support their decarbonisation proposals.
For farmers, renewable energy projects are eligible for support through our Horticultural Development and Agricultural Diversification schemes in instances where the investment is part of a wider project for developing the horticulture or diversification enterprise. Furthermore, farmers interested in community enterprises to develop renewable energy can get in contact with our Welsh Government Energy Service (WGES) and Ynni Cymru.
Farming Connect can provide advice across a broad range of specialist technical and business management areas. Additionally, up to 90% funding can be accessed by farmers for business and technical advice which includes ‘Technical Renewable Energy’.
