Question
What engagement has the Cabinet Secretary had with energy suppliers and processors to stabilise costs for energy-intensive rural businesses such as creameries and abattoirs?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning
The Welsh Government has engaged with the energy and business sectors on a range of issues including the cost of energy.
I have had a number of discussions with UK Government Ministers regarding their Review of Electricity Market Arrangements, and the Welsh Government looks forward to working with the UK Government in implementing the changes to the energy system outlined in the Review.
The decision to maintain a single GB-wide wholesale electricity market provides clarity, and the UK Government has outlined plans for significant reform of the national pricing model. These reforms are intended to improve system coordination, efficiency, market stability and reduce costs to consumers including rural businesses.
