Open Senedd for AI assistants

Connect Claude, or another assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), to Open Senedd. It can then search the Senedd's record and answer from it, with links you can check. It's free and you don't need an account.

The address

https://opensenedd.com/api/mcp

Give your assistant this address as a remote MCP server (sometimes called a custom connector).

In Claude

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector.
  3. Name it Open Senedd and paste the address above. No sign-in is needed.
  4. In a conversation, turn the connector on and ask your question.

Try asking: “How did the Members for my constituency vote on the council tax referendum motion?” or “What has the Senedd said about the deposit return scheme this year?”

In other assistants

Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP can use the address directly. For one that only runs local servers, mcp-remote can bridge to it:

npx -y mcp-remote https://opensenedd.com/api/mcp

What it can do

  • Search the record: debates in plenary and committee, written questions and answers, and Members by name.
  • Members: party, constituency, roles, committees, contact details and recent votes.
  • Votes: recent votes with plain explanations, and any vote in full, with how each party and Member voted.
  • Briefs: the policy areas Open Senedd follows, and the latest analysis of each.
  • Constituencies: the constituency and Members for a Welsh postcode, with facts about the place.
  • Bills: Bills before the Senedd and UK Bills needing its consent, with their stage.

Good to know

  • It reads Open Senedd's public data only. It can't change anything, and it doesn't see your conversations: your assistant sends only the questions it needs answered.
  • Answers include links to Open Senedd pages, which link on to the official record. Check anything important there. Summaries and explanations are written with AI and can contain mistakes.
  • To keep the service fast for everyone, each user can make up to 60 requests a minute.
