Question
How is the Cabinet Minister working with local authorities to support schools that have submitted a deficit budget?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Education and the Welsh Language (Anna Brychan)
The Welsh Government provides funding to local authorities to support their funding of pre-16 provision in schools in Wales mainly through the local government revenue settlement. Decisions on the level of funding available to schools and to other services are made by each authority, as part of their overall budget and council tax setting.
Schools in deficit are expected to have a robust recovery plan in place that should be agreed and monitored by the local authority.
