Question
Will the Cabinet Minister share the terms of reference for the newly established town centre taskforce, and provide an update on their work since its leadership was announced on 11 August?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning (Siân Gwenllian)
The Town Centre Taskforce is being established as a time-limited advisory group to consider the evidence on the challenges facing town centres, identify practical solutions and make recommendations to Welsh Ministers. The Terms of Reference, including the detailed scope, objectives and programme of work for the Taskforce, are currently being finalised with the co-chairs and will be published in due course.
Since the co-chairs were announced on 11 August, they have met with Welsh Government officials to help shape the Taskforce’s proposed scope, objectives and approach. Invitations have been issued to prospective members, with the inaugural meeting expected to take place during the week commencing 28 September. The Taskforce is expected to present its final recommendations in spring 2027.
