Question
How will UNISON's September 2026 estimate that local authorities in Wales face a collective funding gap of £269 million in 2027-28 inform the Welsh Government's budget planning for local government for 2027-28?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Finance (Elin Jones)
The Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning is working closely with local authorities and the WLGA to understand the financial pressures facing the sector. We are meeting the Finance Sub Group of the Partnership Council on 8 October to discuss their financial forecasts for 2027-28 and beyond, which will help inform the Welsh Government's budget planning.
