Question
Does the Welsh Government advise local authorities to prioritise formerly looked-after children when considering an application for school transport?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
The Learner Travel (Wales) Measure operational guidance sets out the requirements on local authorities in how they provide school transport for looked after children.
Under Section 3 and 4 of the Measure, the same age and distance criteria apply to ‘looked after’ children (learners) as to those who are not looked after. But the provision that the learner must attend their nearest suitable school to their home does not apply to ‘looked after’ learners (in the same way it applies to learners who are not looked after).
