Question
What is the Welsh Government doing to protect endangered colonies of waxcaps at Blackweir Fields in light of the upcoming music concerts in the summer?
Answer
Answered by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
Wales has a strong legislative and policy framework in place to protect endangered species.
Within the Environment (Wales) Act 2016 there is a requirement to integrate biodiversity considerations into local authorities’ functions and activities.
I understand that Cardiff Council have specifically referenced their duty to protect biodiversity in a publication about the licence for upcoming concerts including steps to protect and monitor waxcap mushrooms.
