Question
What consideration has the Welsh Government given to raising Welsh rates of income tax for higher earners to better distribute wealth throughout Wales?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Welsh Language
The fiscal responsibilities devolved to Wales allow changes to taxation of income but not wealth. Decisions on the proposed Welsh rates of income tax for 2026-27 will be taken in the context of the draft Budget which I will set out on 14th October 2025.
