Has the Welsh Government undertaken any impact assessment of the effects on local economies, town centres and community infrastructure when a local authority area loses its professional rugby region?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning (Siân Gwenllian)
The Welsh Government has not undertaken a specific assessment of the effects on local economies, town centres and community infrastructure arising from a local authority area losing its professional rugby region.
The Welsh Rugby Union is an independent governing body and decisions relating to professional rugby in Wales are matters for the WRU and the clubs concerned. It is therefore for the WRU to assess the implications of any proposed changes and to explain the evidence and analysis underpinning its decisions.
The Welsh Government remains committed to supporting Town Centres in Wales and recognises the important contribution that professional and community sport make to wellbeing, participation and local economies in Towns.
