What assessment has the Welsh Government made of the impact on Bangor’s private rented sector properties of being let under Home Office accommodation contracts, including whether higher contracted rents are reducing supply and increasing rents for local families and students?

Atebwyd gan Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning (Siân Gwenllian)
The Welsh Government has not undertaken a specific assessment of the impact on Bangor's private rented sector of properties being let under Home Office accommodation contracts, including any effect on housing supply or rent levels for local families and students.
Rent Officers Wales collect rental market evidence to support the administration of Housing Benefit and Local Housing Allowance but do not assess the impact of individual accommodation contracts on local housing markets.
Responsibility for procuring and managing accommodation under Home Office contracts rests with the UK Government and its contracted providers. The Welsh Government continues to engage with local authorities, the Home Office and other partners on housing pressures affecting communities across Wales
