What steps is the Welsh Government taking to ensure that the origin, provenance and supply-chain journey of steel used in Welsh public infrastructure projects can be independently verified and audited?

The Welsh Government published Welsh Procurement Policy Note (WPPN) 008, which requires Welsh Contracting Authorities to submit an annual return on any projects undertaken over £2m that include a steel component. The returns capture information around the origin, type and amount of steel used.
We are due to collect the first dataset under WPPN 008 at the end of this financial year. This information will provide us with a better understanding of how much domestically produced steel has been used in public sector contracts in Wales during the reporting period.
