What engagement has the Welsh Government undertaken with supermarkets on the introduction of Welsh produce aisles?

Our most recent audit of Welsh food and drink produce in the major retailers in Wales was conducted in autumn 2024. The audit showed that we have in the region of 2,500 Welsh products in stores and there’s been an average increase of over 900 products on supermarket shelves since 2022. Many of these products are in the bakery, food cupboard and dairy categories.
We have worked closely with the retailers to include a Welsh flag or branding on the shelves where products are located to further raise consumer awareness that the product is made in Wales. We also support businesses with branding development and highlight the benefits of ‘made in Wales’ messaging. We also advise the retailers on their ‘own label’ produce which are made in Wales and many have taken this on board and added the Welsh dragon to their packaging.
