What consideration has the Cabinet Secretary given to risk that the visitor levy will result in an increase in wild camping?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Welsh Language
The visitor levy is a modest charge and is generally set at a lower rate than levies applied elsewhere. The lower rate of 75p per person per night for stays at a pitch or area for camping, as well as for stays in shared accommodation, helps build in fairness to those using these accommodation types. In addition, under‑18s are exempt when staying in those accommodation types.
Given these low rates, I do not anticipate that they will materially influence decisions on where to stay. In addition, the Act provides for review of its operation and effect to ensure any issues that should arise can be addressed.
