How is the Welsh Government promoting road safety through the education system in Powys?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Education
The mandatory Health and Well-being Area within the Curriculum for Wales provides a holistic framework to support learners in navigating life’s opportunities and challenges.
It includes learning to understand and manage risks in everyday life, and to recognise how their decisions affect their own safety and the safety of others. This includes contexts such as road safety, where understanding risk and responsible behaviour is essential.
This is part of helping learners assess consequences and make informed choices, in line with the mandatory Statement of What Matters: “Our decision-making impacts the quality of our lives and the lives of others.”
Within these expectations, schools design their curricula to meet the needs of their learners and their local context: including in rural areas like Powys. Schools can choose to include learning on road safety, helping learners to understand the factors that influence decision‑making, and supporting them to make safer, and considered choices.
