What discussions has the Welsh Government had with Great Western Railways regarding the adoption of Transport for Wales's Tap & Go service on Great Western Railway services in Wales?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy Minister for Transport (Mark Hooper)
The Welsh Government and Transport for Wales (TfW) have engaged with Great Western Railway (GWR) on a number of occasions on this matter over the past few years, also engaging with the UK Government’s Department for Transport directly to unlock this opportunity.
To date, GWR’s position remains unchanged despite efforts to encourage them to join the scheme. TfW will continue to advocate for GWR joining the Pay As You Go scheme.
Currently, Pay As You Go is accepted at 95 stations across South East Wales, with GWR services calling at 4 of these: Severn Tunnel Junction, Newport, Cardiff Central, Bridgend. At these stations, TfW provide customer updates advising passengers that Pay As You Go is not valid on GWR services.
